Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S)
Flexa Marine Carpeting comes in four weights: 16oz, 20oz, 24oz, and 28oz. The best choice depends on several factors:
- Boat Size and Type: Smaller boats may need lighter options (16oz) due to weight limitations. Larger boats might benefit from heavier weights (24oz or 28oz) for better durability.
- Intended Use and Environment: Consider usage patterns. Heavier traffic areas or extreme weather conditions might require heavier carpets (24oz or 28oz).
- Foot Traffic and Durability: Opt for heavier weights (24oz or 28oz) for high-traffic areas or if you have pets for increased lifespan.
Personal Preference and Budget: Thicker carpets provide a softer feel, but come at a higher cost.
Flexa Marine Carpeting has a minimum order of 5 feet and is sold by linear foot to minimize waste. Most Flooring ships in 3-4 business days. During peak spring and fall season this can take 7 days. We, unfortunately, do not offer free shipping as there is a real cost to shipping, but we do offer you affordable options. Unlike other flooring companies, they will always fold it to save money. We know that not everyone wants their flooring folded and as a result, we like to give you options. We know the folding won't hurt your flooring as the wrinkles do come out, but it can take 24+ hours laid out in a warm environment. We know some people also don't like to wait or take the chance so we also ship the marine carpet rolled at a higher cost as it's a large package and gets hit with oversized package fees.
Thickness directly correlates to the feel of the carpet underfoot. Generally, thicker carpets (higher oz) will provide a softer and more comfortable feel.
Yes, installing Flexa Marine Carpeting is a relatively simple process. However, for a seamless installation, they recommend using their marine-grade padding and boat flooring glue (sold separately).
Flexa Marine Carpeting is designed for easy maintenance. Regular vacuuming and spot cleaning with a marine-grade carpet cleaner are generally recommended. For specific cleaning instructions, it's always best to refer to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The minimum order requirement for Flexa Marine Carpeting is 5 feet, and they sell by the linear foot to minimize waste. When choosing the right weight of marine carpeting for your boat, several factors should be considered to determine the most suitable option. Here are some key considerations to help you make an informed decision:
- 16oz: Best used with smaller boats like kayaks or personal watercraft which may require lighter-weight marine carpeting (e.g., 16oz) due to their size and weight limitations. 16oz marine carpeting is also great for fishing boats and side walls as it's more pliable and easier to work around the edges and around curves.
- 20oz is one of our more popular options as it is both affordable and works for most applications.
- 24oz is most popular for pontoons as people enjoy the softness and extra padding this provides.
- 28oz is for commercial and heavy uses
Boat Size and Type:
- Smaller boats like kayaks or personal watercraft may require lighter weight marine carpeting (e.g., 16oz) due to their size and weight limitations.
- Larger boats such as yachts or commercial vessels may benefit from heavier weight marine carpeting (e.g., 24oz or 28oz) to withstand greater foot traffic and potential wear and tear.
Intended Use and Environment:
- Consider how you plan to use your boat. If it's primarily for recreational purposes or occasional use, a medium-weight marine carpet (e.g., 20oz) may suffice.
- For commercial or heavy-use applications, or if you often encounter extreme weather conditions, a heavier weight marine carpet (e.g., 24oz or 28oz) with superior durability and longevity might be more appropriate.
Foot Traffic and Durability:
Evaluate the anticipated foot traffic on your boat. Higher foot traffic areas, such as entryways or common walkways, may benefit from a heavier weight marine carpeting to withstand constant use.
If you expect heavy usage or have pets on board, opting for a more durable and resilient marine carpeting with a higher weight (e.g., 24oz or 28oz) can help extend its lifespan.
- Personal Preference and Budget:
- Consider your personal preferences for carpet thickness, appearance, and comfort. Thicker marine carpeting generally provides a softer feel underfoot.
- Additionally, keep in mind your budget constraints, as higher weight marine carpeting may come at a higher cost.
- It's recommended to consult with marine carpeting manufacturers, boat dealers, or professionals experienced in boat carpet installations. They can provide specific recommendations based on your boat's characteristics, intended use, and personal preferences. Additionally, reading customer reviews and seeking advice from other boat owners can offer valuable insights into the performance and suitability of different marine carpet weights.
To help prevent returns we strongly suggest getting a sample before purchasing. Please note we do accept returns. You can return most new and unopened flooring in the original packaging within 30 days of delivery. We recommend opening an end slightly to ensure it's correct before fully opening. If we make an error we always make it right and will always do our best to ensure you are happy with your product.
